Who is Monkey Knuts®?
Ken Herzstein was a young sailor from San Francisco, drawn to the high seas at the young age of 18. Cut off from normal life on shore for months at a time, Ken made the best of his cramped living quarters by telling tales and tying monkey fist knots to pass the time by at sea. Over 50 years later, Ken's knot tying techniques and distinctive monkey fist knot eventually fell into the hands of his son.
After traveling the world in his father’s footsteps, Kevin Herzstein familiarized himself with the numerous applications of the monkey fist knot. An inventor who has the tendency to think outside the box, Kevin spent several hours perfecting the monkey fist knot. He undoubtedly saw its potential as a unique new tool that would redesign safety, style, and convenience for sailors, outdoorsman, military and the average “Joe” and “Jane" alike. In 2007, Kevin received his first opportunity from Cal Berkeley’s football team while living in a Los Angeles apartment and an eBay pastime quickly developed into a flourishing business.
The company name Monkey Knuts® originated from the well-known term “monkey fist”. The term Knuts was derived from the Old Norwegian word Knútr meaning "knot" and Monkey Knuts® was inherently born! Monkey Knuts® has embarked on a journey to provide the finest monkey fist products for enthusiast all around the world!
